THE CHALLENGE

Failure to recognise junior doctors' working hours pose a risk to patients and junior doctors themselves.

Junior doctors in WA work excessive hours, many of which go unpaid.

Doctors in WA have asked us to investigate a class action to recover their unpaid wages, alleging breaches of the Enterprise Agreement(s) by the John of God and Ramsay Health Care Hospitals.

THE OBJECTIVE

To achieve a better work place for junior doctors and ensure your work has been fairly rewarded.

That means:

  • A safe working environment for patients and doctors alike

  • Health authorities in WA adhering to their own agreed pay conditions with junior doctors.

The 2023 Medical Board of Australia survey found one in five junior doctors — are now thinking about a different career.

AMA president Steve Robson said the findings of the survey highlighted the impact of a health system "under crisis".

"The fact that 20 per cent of those who responded to the survey are considering a career outside of medicine should be a wake-up call for governments across the country, particularly as these are doctors in training who have spent years investing in their education and training"

- Professor Steve Robson 8 February 2023.
